In our busy and often-hectic lives, we need maps to navigate the rapids of life. Yoga, mindfulness, and meditation are some of the most powerful tools you can wield—and their benefits are backed by neuroscience. Using new technology in brain imaging, researchers have demonstrated the power of these practices to improve your neurobiology and self-healing.

Through these innovative talks, you will find inner calm and gain a scientific understanding of your brain. Your guide, Dr. M. Mala Cunningham, is a licensed counselor and clinical professor at the University of Virginia. A leading expert in mind–body medicine, Dr. Cunningham draws on cutting-edge neuroscience research as well as more than 35 years of experience teaching yoga. Her gentle presentation style and ethereal voice soothe your mind, while her personal anecdotes keep you captivated.

Dr. Cunningham lays the groundwork for the course with the foundational concepts in yoga and mindfulness theory. You will then explore the mechanisms and effects of stress. Integrating insights from a broad range of topics–including health psychology, neurobiology, and Buddhist meditation–you’ll learn about how the mind works. As you progress through the course, you will find practical step-by-step strategies for healing your physical health and regulating your emotions.

If you’re a newcomer to yoga and mindfulness, you will learn to engage in tried-and-true methods of relaxation and self-awareness. If you already practice yoga as a form of fitness, you know that moving through its asanas (postures) ease your aches, increase energy, and build strength and flexibility. This course will bring your workouts to a deeper level, helping you experience yoga not only as a full-body exercise but also as a profound philosophy.

In each lecture, Dr. Cunningham gives you takeaway points and activities for stress reduction, emotional resilience, and self-care. You are sure to return to these healing exercises and guided meditations again and again, guiding you to deeper levels of inner peace and happiness.
