This series may change your life.
Capuchin Fr. Dan Crosby, master retreat leader, invites you to look anew at Jesus’ call to discipleship, and at what that call means for us in our lives. Enjoy these talks in your car or home, and gain fresh insight into scripture and the Christian life.
As we know, the author of John’s Gospel constantly invites us to unearth new layers of meaning in nearly everything he writes about. Thus, Scripture scholars believe the Beloved Disciple was deliberately un-named, so that all disciples encountering these passages could find themselves within them and embrace full discipleship as totally and eagerly as did this early follower of Jesus.
Through 12 lectures, Dan Crosby will examine all the passages in John referring to the Beloved Disciple. Discover, with Fr. Dan, the richness they contain for a deeper embrace of Jesus’ love, and for living out that love within our own Christian community – just as the original Beloved Disciple did so faithfully in his community.

John S. Munroe, Ph.D., St. Joseph College of Maine –
A Fine Starting Point to John’s Gospel
This series of lectures provides a fine starting point for a student of the New Testament – or any interested person. For centuries, people have asked who the “Beloved Disciple” in John’s Gospel really is. Fr. Crosby tackles this question with keen understanding. In John’s Gospel, a disciple is one who comes to believe Jesus is Messiah and leads others to Jesus. Fr. Crosby makes this very clear in his presentations. The “beloved disciple” is not only someone who lived apostolic times; the “beloved disciple” lives today in the understanding and development of Fr. Crosby’s lectures. It is important to note Fr. Crosby’s reference to and reliance on Fr. Ray Brown’s scholarship regarding the Johannine texts. As one who knew Fr. Brown, twice appointed to the Pontifical Biblical Commission (the first American so appointed), I commend Fr. Crosby’s reliance on this great scholar.

What is special about it is that it relates the gospel to my own way of being disciple and to our contemporary situation as disciples

Very helpful.
The course helped me understand that “I” am the beloved disciple of Jesus because Jesus wants us all to understand how beloved we are.
Vincent –
Very practical
Fr. Crosby is full of personal confessions and insights. Very practical comments and thoughts. Easy to imagine taking attendance at Mass and its follow-up to an entirely new level (it’s done that for me!).

The insights into the true meaning and understanding of the Biblical text and, at times, certain specific words, e.g. “Ecce” commonly translated as “Behold” but maybe better translated in certain contexts as “Look” and how “Looking” or “Beholding” relates to the contemplative spirit.
