Afterword by Dr. James Finley, Ph.D.
Dr. James “Jim” Finley, Ph.D. lived for six years as a cloistered Trappist monk at the Abbey of Gethsemani in Kentucky, where he studied with the world-renowned monk and bestselling author, Thomas Merton.
Dr. Finley went on to earn his Ph.D. in psychology. A highly regarded retreat leader, Merton scholar, and master of the Contemplative Way, he is also the celebrated author of Merton’s Palace of Nowhere, The Contemplative Heart, and Christian Meditation: Experiencing the Presence of God.
Now married and living in Santa Monica, California, Dr. Finley practices clinical psychology and leads retreats and workshops throughout the United States and Canada. His retreat topics attract men and women from all religious traditions who seek to live contemplatively in the midst of today’s busy world.
