Rev. Dr. Cynthia Bourgeault, Ph.D.
Dr. Cynthia Bourgeault is a mystic, writer, and internationally celebrated retreat leader. One of the core faculty members at the Living School for Action and Contemplation, she received her Ph.D. in medieval studies and musicology from the University of Pennsylvania. She is the recipient of the 2014 Contemplative Voices Award from the Shalem Institute for Spiritual Formation, and she has written eight books: The Holy Trinity and the Law of Three, The Meaning of Mary Magdalene, The Wisdom Jesus, Centering Prayer and Inner Awakening, Mystical Hope, The Wisdom Way of Knowing, Chanting the Psalms, and Love is Stronger than Death.Dr. Bourgeault is a founding Director of both the Aspen Wisdom School and the Contemplative Society, where she serves as Principal Teacher and advisor. An Episcopal priest and long-time teacher of centering prayer, she has collaborated with Thomas Keating, Bruno Barnhart, and Richard Rohr and has participated in inter-spiritual dialogues with such luminaries as A.H. Almaas, Kabir Helminski, Swami Atmarupananda, and Rami Shapiro. Dr. Bourgeault is a member of the Global Peace Initiative for Women and Contemplative Council. Her articles have been published in such publications as Parabola Magazine, Gnosis Magazine, and Sewanee Theological Review. She divides her time between her seaside hermitage in Maine and her global travels teaching the recovery of the Christian contemplative and Wisdom path.
