Brilliantly taught and filled with helpful, real-world examples, this survey course was designed with your practical canon law questions in mind.

You are invited to join one of America’s leading canon law experts, Fr. Arthur J. Espelage, O.F.M., J.C.D., in exploring the principles and rules that govern our religious conduct.

In 12 masterful audio lectures that cover 2,000 years of church laws, you’ll see how religion and the lives of all Catholics are intertwined in spiritual, practical, cultural, and historical ways. As you do so, you’ll come to understand the meaning of Jesus’ teaching that “the Sabbath law was made for humankind, and not humankind for the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27).

In this course, you’ll explore the sources of canon law—sacred Scripture, theology, and tradition—before looking at how these laws permeate the Seven Sacraments, church membership, and ecumenical councils. In the process, you’ll gain deep insights into how religious rules affect the lives of lay Catholics and clergy.

    Weak Course

I’ve listened to about three dozen NYKM courses over the years, and this one is probably the weakest of the lot. I was looking forward to an academic presentation on canon law, but what I got instead struck me as a bunch of Catholic propaganda. I learned virtually nothing about canon law itself. I will be sending this course back for a refund and hoping NYKM comes up with a future course that actually teaches about canon law.
