Brilliantly composed by the author of Choosing the Better Part? Women in the Gospel of Luke, this audio course lets you view the Gospel of Luke through a fresh lens. A gifted storyteller, Sr. Barbara Reid’s experience leading retreats in the Holy Land shines through in the detail and vividness of her delivery.
Sr. Reid’s storytelling ability perfectly reflects that distinctive feature of Luke’s gospel: preaching in parables. As you know, the Gospel of Luke contains the parables of the Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son. He was also the only evangelist to record the story of Jesus’ resurrection appearance to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Under Sr. Reid’s expert guidance, you will re-examine these famous accounts with an eye towards Luke’s emphasis on inclusivity, healing, and forgiveness.
This spirit of inclusion—regardless of sex, class, or race—is central to both the Gospel according to Luke and Christianity at large. As you navigate the modern world, let the Lucan Jesus live in your heart and mind.

Sr. Phyllis –
This course helped to understand the Gospel of Luke from a woman’s perspective.
This course helped to understand the Gospel of Luke from a woman’s perspective. The feminine voice is necessary to get a balanced view of things.

Very clear concepts, easy to grasp.
There is such variety. Sr. Barbara’s descriptions are colourful… Very clear concepts, easy to grasp. I can remember her saying there are four types of miracles. Luke’s gospel suits her. One of her topics is “All are Welcome”–inclusiveness emphasized. Modern society rejects so many! I listen to one of these every second day.

Winter Survey: January 2017
Sister Reid’s approach to the Gospel of Luke gives listeners the historical context of the work as well as themes that have pastoral significance today. Her presentation helps me to read this Gospel with fresh eyes, especially in terms of what the Kingdom of God means in terms of the poor, women, and marginalized populations.
