Ignatius’ imagination was orderly and vibrant. Because of his conviction that believers are best able to grow in their spiritual lives through a combination of structure and flexibility, he developed his Exercises to offer both strengths. You’ll explore the series of progressive and cumulative prayer exercises, through which the believer experiences all the most important ‘moments’ of the Christian journey.

“This is the Real Thing”
I have only done the shorter version of the exercise, a ten days retreat. I have done this retreat twice in my live, in 91 and 93. It was such, that many of the people I was with didn’t hesitate to go on into Religious life or marriage. Myself, from the first retreat I went on to the challenging pilgrimage by foot to Santiago de Compostela in Spain( 500 miles) it was inspired by the Nun who was in charge to prepare our food, and who encouraged me during the retreat. I felt the loud and clear voice of God calling me to be his disciple in the discerning process. I have to also say that the Spiritual combat we also learn about during the retreat, is quite serious as I now know after not following the discerning I learned during the retreat…

Excellent explanation of the dynamics and flow of The Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola.
Excellent explanation of the dynamics and flow of The Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola. Spiritual directors taking retreatants based on The Spiritual Exercises would find this a helpful resource.

I still gleaned many new insights.
Fr. McDermott is knowledgeable, insightful, clear, and easy to listen to. Long familiar with the Exercises (I have been a Jesuit for almost 40 years), I still gleaned many new insights.
